Striped Knit Cardigan – Gray/Rose

A knit cardigan is a knitted jacket that stays open at the front and is worn over a top. Unlike a sweater you do not have to pull it over your head, so you can open or close it whenever you like. That makes it a practical companion on days when temperatures change.

Stripes give a plain knitted piece a clear structure without the need for a second pattern. Wide block stripes look calmer than narrow pinstripes and are easier to combine with plain pieces. A striped cardigan often takes on the role of the eye catching piece in an outfit.

With jeans and a plain top you get an easy everyday look. Over a dress or skirt it feels softer and takes the strictness out of an outfit. As a rule of thumb: if the cardigan carries the pattern, the other pieces stay calm.

A cardigan is the lighter answer to cool transitional days. Indoors you can keep it on without getting too warm, outdoors it warms you on mild days on its own and otherwise as an extra layer under a jacket. For rain and wind a proper jacket remains the better choice.

Gray and rose form a calm combination that works well with white, cream and denim. The gray takes the sweetness out of the rose, which is why the pairing also looks understated at the office. For more depth, add anthracite or a dark bordeaux.
