Oversized Cardigan – Taupe

A cardigan is knitwear with a full front opening, worn over whatever top you have on. Because it never has to go over your head, you can undo it the moment a room turns warm. In the wardrobe it fills the gap that neither a sweater nor a proper jacket covers.

Oversized refers to a style direction, not to a size. The look comes from streetwear and has been a fixed part of knitwear fashion for some years now, because it reads as relaxed and layers well. It is worn in a sporty way just as much as alongside narrow pieces.

Since knitwear in an oversized style already draws attention, calm companions go with it: straight jeans, narrow pants or a plain dress. Sneakers make it sporty, ankle boots make it dressier. A narrow belt worn over the closed cardigan adds structure to the whole.

The cardigan is meant for days on which a jacket would be too much and a top too little. It works indoors as well as outdoors and opens in seconds as soon as things get too warm. Once damp weather and strong wind join in, reach for something weatherproof instead.

Taupe is a grayish brown and therefore an in between shade that belongs neither clearly to the warm nor to the cool colors. That is exactly what makes it practical: it stands next to camel and cream as readily as next to gray, navy or black. As a muted shade it carries bold patterns without taking their attention away.
